William C. Smith

SMITH, WILLIAM “BILL” CRANSTON SR., age 83 of Oneonta, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Smith; son, Chip Smith; and sister, Janine Hamilton. He is survived by his daughters, Karen S. Glass (Mike) and Connie L. Smith; sister, Arline S. Lynch; grandchildren, Hayley Douglas (Andrew), Beth Clayton, Andrew Glass, Evelyn Glass and Mary Beth Glass; great-grandchildren, Sam, Sawyer and Elijah; cousin and best friend, Joe Bynum; special friends and neighbors, Cathy and Mel Wade and family, and Jason and Jennifer Coe and family; and several nieces and nephews. Bill retired as a service foreman from AT&T (South Central Bell) after 37 years, he also worked as an auxiliary policeman with Birmingham P.D. He was a hardworking man who took great care of his family and was always ready to help a neighbor in need. Bill was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting both deer and bird. His service will be graveside on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Wood Family Cemetery 145 57th Street N. Birmingham, AL 35212 at 2:00. The family will be at the cemetery for friends to visit at 1:30.
