William E. Thames, 82 of Birmingham passed away Monday, February 24, 2014. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; he had a stellar career in the automobile industry for over 60 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Jackson Thames and Elsie Brewton, and 2 sisters, Louise McCord and Doris Sawyer. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Vangie Thames, son Phillip J. Thames, and one granddaughter, Katherine Campbell. He also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Elmwood Chapel with funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
