A native of Abbeville, Alabama, he was a graduate of Abbeville High School and a Birmingham business college.
Yancey’s professional career included his early work for the Verne Collier Candy Company, followed by a long tenure as a supervisor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Grace Moody Barnes, and his two brothers Louie and Dennis Barnes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Peggy Barnes; his daughter, Melanie; his grandchildren, Candace Goins and Derrick Abbott; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis and Aiden Goins.
