Yvonne James Kirkland, age 97, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The family graveside service was held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum. She was born in Bessemer, Al on November 4, 1926, to Henrietta Nye Malone James and Frederick A. James, Jr. She married William Herman Kirkland, Sr. on September 12, 1948. They were married until his death on March 10, 1997. Yvonne enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge and spending time with her family, especially on vacations to the gulf coast. She was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Yvonne was a Chi Omega at Auburn University. She is survived by her children, Kirk Kirkland (Cindy); Randy Kirkland (Kathy); Susan Duran (John); and Robert Kirkland (Tammy); grandchildren, Lauren Brown, Leigh Kirkland, Julianne McMannes, Grant Kirkland, Matthew Kirkland, Kristen Kirkland, Joseph Kirkland and Anna Kirkland Bonner; 6 great-grandchildren, Ann Kirkland Brown, Reid Brown, Bennett McMannes, Sawyer Kirkland, Collins Kirkland, and Halle Kirkland.
