Obituary of Bruce Barker
Bruce Barker, 58, of Bloomington died unexpectedly Sunday, November 21, 2021 in his home. He was born October 25, 1963 in Bloomington to Harry U. Barker and Laverne Snow Barker. He was a retired computer programmer. Survivors include his mother, Laverne Chandler of Bloomington; a brother, Harry L. (Laura) Barker of Madison, Alabama; two sisters, Susie Deckard and Jacki (Michael) Porter both of Bloomington; and nieces and nephews, Harry J. Barker, Ian Barker, Camila (Jordon West) Barker, Dylan Barker, Sara Barker, Zack (Liz McIntyre) Deckard, Alexandra Porter, and Samantha (Michael) Fitzpatrick. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry U. Barker; his stepfather, Philip L. Chandler; and his grandparents, Harry H. and Marie Barker and William and Lillian Snow. Bruce was a 1981 graduate of Bloomington High School North, he was an active member of Blooming Fools Hash House Harriers and a certified SCUBA diver. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, riding his motorcycle, caving and other outdoor activities, and working jigsaw puzzles. Bruce was very active with his hobbies and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was an outgoing, happy person, who loved a good story, told a good joke, and always made for a good listener when others wanted or needed to talk. His smile was often, his laughter contagious, and his caring nature was obvious to all who ever met him. Bruce is truly loved by many and will be sorely missed. There will be a gathering of Family and Friends on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, November 27 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Kim Norris officiating; burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
