Obituary of Daniel D. Pugh
Daniel “Dan” D. Pugh, 80, of Bloomington, died Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the IU Health Hospice House. Dan was born October 24, 1938 in Indianapolis, IN to Harry D. Pugh and Anna Mae Mitchell Pugh. He was a retired pharmacist. He is survived by his two daughters, Andrea (husband Shane) Wenderoth and Heidi Hendricks both of Bloomington; two sons, Monte (wife Robin) Pugh of Apopka, FL and Joel Pugh of Bloomington. A brother, Dr. Thomas Pugh (wife Barbara) of Culver, IN; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 53 years, Constance “Connie” Doty Pugh; a sister, Phyllis Sing; his brother in law, Bob Sing and a son in law, Rob Hendricks. Dan was a proud graduate of Purdue University where he majored in pharmacy. He was the president of Cary Quad West for several years. He was a lifelong Purdue fan and loved Purdue football. While at Purdue, Dan didn’t just major in pharmacy but was just a few credits shy of having a double major in both pharmacy and business. This served him well in his professional life. Dan bought his first drug store in Cedar Lake, IN at the tender age of just 24. After owning the store in Cedar Lake for several years he moved his family to Indianapolis where he made a career of buying drug stores that were in trouble, turning them into profitable stores and selling them at a profit. After “flipping” several drug stores he bought Reliable Drugs in Whiteland, IN. The Whiteland store was by far his most successful and he owned that store for many years. During that time he had moved his family from the hustle and bustle of Indianapolis to beautiful Brown County, IN. He was a long time member of New Life Community Church in Nashville. Dan and Connie had a real heart for teenagers and were the leaders of the Nashville Muppets Ministry for the Jr. and Sr. high. After many happy years in Nashville, Dan sold his drug store in Whiteland and moved his family to Bloomington where he started Indiana Prescription Laboratory. IPL, as it became known, was a pharmacy specializing in servicing nursing homes throughout central Indiana with prescription drugs and hospital supplies. Dan will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his jolly laugh, his hilarious stories about his years at Purdue, for being the ultimate “night owl” (if you came to visit the Pugh’s, you were going to be up all night!), for his generosity and for just being a great guy. He will be dearly missed by many. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 3:00pm Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St. with Pastor Darrell Stout officiating. A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00-3:00pm.
