Edwin Lee Hendrix, 87, of Bloomington died Sunday morning, February 11, 2018 in his home. He was born November 29, 1930 the fourth of eight children in Bloomington to Wayne Hendrix and Jennie Opal Baker Hendrix. He was retired from the United States Navy and Indiana University.
Ed enlisted in the Navy when he was seventeen; staying in for twenty years, retiring in 1968. Ed was a long time very proud member of the Monroe County “Veterans Honor Guard”. Ed was a life member of VFW Post 604, American Legion Post 18, AMVETS Post 2000 and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Retired Enlisted Personnel Association, Retired Indiana Public Employees Association, National Rifle Association, and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 130 of Greenwood, IN.
Ed is survived by his wife, Betty Hall Hendrix; a son, Robert (Kathy) Hendrix of Gosport; a daughter, Lana (Steve) Norman of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Nathan Hogge, Karen Shupp, Brittani Evans, Jessica Carney, Katelyn Hodge, Kaylee McMillan, Tara Todd, and Emily Todd; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette Hartgraves of Bloomington and Wanda (John) Gorham of Mishawaka, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Hogge; three brothers, Billy Jack, Thomas Earl, and David Ray; and two sisters, Alice Irene Sowders and Lois Williamson.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM and 1 hour prior to services in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 12:00 PM also in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors given by the Monroe County Honor Guard.
