

Glodene “Deanie” was born in Monroe County, Indiana on January 10, 1925 to John L. and Clara Etta (Polley) Stephens. She was raised on the family farm in Salt Creek Township. On January 30, 1942, she married James K. Floyd. Jim and Glodene raised their five children just down the road from where she grew up. They moved to Bean Blossom Township when Lake Monroe was in the process of being built in the mid 1960’s.
She excelled in school and even skipped a few grades and ended up being in the same grade as her older sister, Opal. Deanie was an amazing cook, teaching her grandkids and great grandkids how to cook. At one point, she and her sister in-law, Lois, owned their own restaurant. Glodene made the best peach cobbler. She loved gardening, canning and taking care of her many flower beds.
Through the years, she had worked at RCA, owned a restaurant, farmed, was a substitute school bus driver for her husband while he was busy on the farm, and was a beautician for many years.
She is survived by four children, James E. Floyd of Martinsville, IN; Kentlin D. Floyd (Barbara) of Westport, IN; Carol L. Lawhead of Terre Haute; and John Mac Floyd (Joyce) of Ellettsville.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren – Jeff Floyd, Kevin Floyd, Tami Marshall, Kentrina Freeman, Kimberly Albright, Darryl Floyd, Deana Bower, Tana Long, Jimmy Lawhead, Theresa Collier, Alicia Floyd, John Scott Floyd, Matthew Floyd & Carly Woodruff. Also surviving are 29 great grandchildren and 30+ great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by one brother, John Stephens of Bloomington and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband - James Kenneth Floyd, who passed away on August 15, 2009; her son and daughter in-law - Steven L. and Janet L. Floyd; her parents; Brothers - Kenneth Stephens & Ronald Stephens; Sisters – Edna Baxter, Pearl Fleener, Goldie Black, Pauline Deckard, Mary Blackwell, Opal Baxter and Nora Alice Henderson. She was also preceded in death by her son in-law, Michael Lawhead and two great grandsons – Tyler Griswold and Joel Brown.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Day & Deremiah-Frye Mortuary in Bloomington. Viewing will begin at 10:00 with the funeral service at 1:00 PM.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
