James Edward Hendricks, age 91, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington, Born October 15, 1933 in Bloomington, he was the son of Frank and Irene (Peterson) Hendricks. James was a lifelong resident of Unionville graduating from Unionville High School in 1953. During his high school years, he took great pride and joy in playing basketball for the Unionville Arrows. James worked at Westinghouse as an Industrial Engineer Clerk. James also co-owned the Mountain Go-Cart Raceway in Stinesville, Indiana where his son Rob was a very talented Go-Cart driver. He was an active member of the Eastview Church of the Nazarene where he was responsible for several projects being completed at the church. He also served The Church of the Nazarene Southwest Indiana District as a lay member in different committees and boards including building and properties. Additionally, he was a member of the V.F.W., National Guard, B & B Water Board of Directors and the Westinghouse Retired Employees. In his younger days, he coached and umpired Little League Baseball. He was an avid golfer and a 30 year season ticket holder of Indiana University Football and Basketball tickets.
Jim’s greatest earthly joy was his loving family.
Immediately following his retirement from Westinghouse he began planning a “family trip of a lifetime”.
In 1999 the entire Hendricks family of 8 was treated to a guided back-pack trip in the Shoshone Mountains of Cody Wyoming. 16 pack horses plus the riding horses and 1 mule (Jim’s ride) trekked up the rugged Shoshone Mountains carrying supplies, scrumptious food to be prepared in iron utensils over open fire, tents, trout fishing equipment, an 8 day event to be never forgotten. 170 trout were caught. (And that's no fish tale!). Thank you dear Dad, Papaw and Hubby.
James is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruth E. (Johnson) Hendricks, of Bloomington, his daughter, Jayma Suzanne (Jon) Clough, of Bloomington, a daughter-in-law, Heidi Pugh Hendricks, of Bloomington; four grandchildren; Christopher Aaron Clough (Jeannie), Evan Robert Clough, Haylee Raquel Hendricks, Paige Alexia Hendricks Elgendy (Abed) of Cairo, Egypt, one great-granddaughter, Kylie Breann Clough and one great-grandson, Cody Blake Clough.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Robert Jay Hendricks in 2016 and one sister, Mildred Hendricks.
A memorial service is being planned for Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1pm at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Yates officiating. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 12 noon until time of service.
