April 3, 1941-January 20, 2026
Family and friends will no longer hear the voice of Joe Morris asking "And how does the world find you this lovely day?" Joe departed this life peacefully on January 20th after years of progressively debilitative health issues. He was a son, brother, beloved father, grandfather, uncle, caregiver and devoted friend to so many.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana he graduated from Wylie High School, attended Indiana State University and later joined the Air Force. As a young boy, Joe helped his father as a projectionist at local movie theaters and also delivered papers to the "red light district." Joe's early career spanned positions in department store management in Indiana, Texas and Louisiana. Later in his career Joe worked for Carla Corporation for over 30 years selling jewelry to independent retail stores before retiring in 2006.
Joe loved to travel and was alway excited to talk about his adventures to six continents, all fifty states and all Canadian provinces. His memory of geography and highways made him a veritable travel consultant to one and all. Joe enjoyed skiing, golf, reading, music, movies and a glass of good scotch shared with friends. He was an active member of the Bloomington North Rotary Club for 40+ years where in his time he served as President, and was on many committees including 10 years on Toast event. He also cherished his lunches with the ROMEO group (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and looked forward to the always interesting conversations.
Survived by daughter Leslie Morris, granddaughter Claire Morris-Martinez, brother Richard Morris (Vickie), sister Emily Carder, significant other Janice Skinner, step children Jay Taylor, Joni Fex (Anders), Michael Taylor (Anne), nieces and nephews and many close life-long friends including Brad and Rhea Lawrence, Tim and Dorthy Ellis and Lynn and Ute Coyne.
Preceded in death by parents Frank and Izetta Morris, brother Jim Morris, wife Sue Morris and wife Ursula (Rose) Morris.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness to others and his laughter and joy at every gathering. He leaves behind a legacy of love for family and friends whose network reaches across the US and Germany. His indomitable spirit and ability to listen deeply endeared him to everyone close to him.
Joe exemplified the words - Live the life for which you want to be remembered.
