John Holm

John Otto Holm, born March 1, 1929, in Santa Cruz, California to Otto and Margaret Russell Holm passed away on September 14, 2021, at IU Bloomington Hospital. He was 92 years old. He is survived by his adult children, Sherry Holm, Daniel Holm, his wife Lois, Robert Holm, his wife Karen, and his daughter of the heart Jennifer Masterson. John was predeceased by his wife Patricia Louise Holm in Santa Cruz County California. John was also predeceased by his wife Edith Holm in 2017 and survived by her children Lynn Cochran, John Cochran, and Joel Cochran. He is survived by his two adult grandchildren, Katherine Joy Holm, and Michael Thorn. Michael and Rachel Thorn are the parents of John’s three great grandchildren. John worked as a retail meat cutter during his working life. He loved to bargain hunt at estate and garage sales and resell his treasures. John thought of himself as a cowboy, loved riding horses and was an excellent horseman. He also was an outstanding artist, working most recently in colored pencil depicting mountain men, horses, and wildlife. He loved to fish on the lake near his recent home. A summer fishing trip to Montana with his family is a treasured memory. John was known wherever he lived as a loving and generous man. He was a Christian and lived accordingly. His friends and family attest to his being willing to do anything to help them when there was a need. He will be sorely missed but will live in our hearts. A celebration of John’s life will be planned later.
