Obituary of Joyce Pauline Pate
Joyce Pauline Pate, aka - Mom Pate / Granny, 85, went to be with her heavenly father on Thursday March 28, 2019 in Leavenworth Kansas. She was born on June 8, 1933 in Bloomington, Indiana to Rolla and Henrietta Wilbur. Joyce was a retired Indiana University sorority house director of 22 years. Survivors include a son Phillip K. Pate Jr and wife Tammy of Spencer; a daughter Janice Pate Martin and husband Robert of Leavenworth, Kansas; four grandsons, Billy Roberts, Michael Martin, Kevan Pate and Charley Bohall; a granddaughter Karen Hauk; 14 Great grandchildren; a brother Melvin Wilbur of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Rolla and Henrietta Wilbur; a daughter, Joyce Marie Pate; two brothers James David Wilbur (died at birth) and Rolla Eugene Wilbur; and two sisters Rose Terhune and Waneitta Myers. Joyce was of the Christian Faith. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life; she also enjoyed feeding her birds, doing cross word puzzles and listening to Joyce Meyers. Another great passion was I. U. Sports, so much so that when a basketball or football game came on the whole house had to be silent, the Indianapolis Colts came in a close second to them. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third ST. There will be a private Graveside Service held with Pastor Tim Adams officiating.
