

Born in Bloomington, Mary was the daughter of Chris and Hattie (Evans) Chandler. She was married to Rev. Winston A. Thomas until his death in1969, and in 1979 she married the late James Longstreet. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1940.
Mary was a singer and pianist. She and husband Winston were well-known as a couple who held evangelical meetings locally singing and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Pentecostal Faith Assembly and Second Baptist Church.
She was a 28-year employee at RCA as an inspector, and at Indiana University for 10 years working for the late Chancellor Herman B Wells.
In addition to husbands Winston and James, she was preceded in death by brothers Marcus, Robert, Johnny and William (Billy) Chandler.
She is survived by her only child son John Thomas of Bloomington; brothers Marvin (Portia) Chandler of Indianapolis and Jerry (Kaye) Chandler of Anaheim, California; sisters Marcella (Herman) Morgan of El Cerrito, California and Marlene (Pete) Hicks of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters-in law Rosemary Chandler of Indianapolis and Lyda Johnson of Mesa, Arizona; beloved friend an caregiver Sonja Bystrom of Bloomington and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was the family matriarch and will be lovingly missed by her family and many friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:00 PM in Pentecostal Faith Assembly, 1301 W 11th St., with Reverend Michael Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday December 19, 2014 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St. and on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the church.
