

Richard Keith Blankenfeld, age 76, of Bloomington, died Thursday morning at his cabin in the woods. Born January 10, 1939 in Canby, MN , he was the son of Emmitt Blankenfeld, Sr. and Myrtle (Christensen) Blankenfeld. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University. Dedicated to serving his country, he was a career U.S. Naval officer and retired with the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Burton Woolery Post # 18 in Bloomington and the U.S.S. Little Rock Association.
A loving husband, father and brother, he is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann “B.J.” Sample Blankenfeld, of Bloomington, two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacey Wynne and John Mueller, of San Diego, CA and Gabrielle Muriel and Kevin Kidd, of San Diego, CA; his three step-children, Jacqueline Susette Fielder, Brian Sample and Lynn Ann Sample, all of Bloomington; three brothers, Emmitt Blankenfeld, Jr, of Los Angeles, CA, Billie Blankenfeld, of Grygla, MN, Russ Blankenfeld, of Maplewood, MN; four sisters, Dolores Reid, of Chico, CA, Bette Jarvis, of Eugene, OR, Sharon Sievers, of Omaha, NB, and Bonnie Townes, of Lompoc, CA; seven grandchildren, Reese Vaughn Richard Mueller, Sara Jane Mueller, Christina Marie Orman, Lindsay A. Sample, Jeramy Joseph Burton, Natalie M. Sample, Heather Renee Fitzgerald, and Charles Lee “Chuck” Sample and nine great-grandchildren, Joseph Aiden, Savannah Jade, Luke William Anderson, LaTanya Beverlyann, LaKeim Joseph, Colby Coe, Violet Mae, Madsion Elizabeth, and Abigail Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (11/14) at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. with Rev. Mark Hafenbreidel officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens with military honors by the U.S. Navy and the Monroe Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may visit the family on Friday (11/13) from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
