Vernon D. Chambers

Vernon Dee Chambers, age 80, of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at his Florida residence. Born September 1, 1942 in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Martin D. and Vernetta (Watson) Chambers. Vernon retired from NSA Crane where he was a weapon control systems mechanic. He truly enjoyed golfing where he won several local golf tournaments. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Vernon served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967 during the Vietnam War era, and was a member of the Burton Woolery American Legion Post #18 in Bloomington.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Mildred (Janssen) Chambers, of Stuart, Florida; his daughter, Stephanie (David) Stephens, of Bloomington; his son, Brett (Amanda) Chambers, of Loudonville, Ohio, his stepson, Rob (Mary) Rients, of Utica, Illinois, his stepson, Greg (Ann) Rients, of Gray Court, South Carolina, his sister, Linda Michael, of Arizona; two grandchildren, Caitlyn Stephens and Elizabeth Chambers, three step-grandchildren, Jordan Stephens, Dirk Rients, Seth Rients, and one step-great-grandchild, Jace Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Chambers, in 2003, his mother, Vernetta (Watson) Chambers, in 2005, his first wife and mother of his children, Nayda (Smallwood) Chambers, in 2004, his stepdaughter, Susan Rients, in 2014, and one granddaughter, Darienne Taylor, in 1997.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 12:00 noon at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home in Bloomington with Pastor Don English officiating the service. The service of committal will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg where the Monroe Veterans Honor Guard will perform military rites. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.
