Anthony F. Scarangello passed away peacefully on September 16, 2020 in Longmont, Colorado. He was 92 years old. Tony was born and raised in the Bronx and Staten Island, New York, the son of Vito and Frances (Chieco) Scarangello.
Tony was a great family man and loving father. He married Wally V. Lakstins on April 29, 1950 in Edenton, North Carolina, and had two children together – Vivian Frances (Scarangello) Denny of Longmont, CO, and Anthony John Scarangello of Hawthorne, CA. Tony is survived by his two children, Vivian and Tony, his granddaughter Karla Claytor, and two great-granddaughters, Zoe and Maret, all of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his two brothers, Gregory Scarangello of Saratoga Springs, NY, and William Scarangello of New Jersey.
Tony spent 30 years of his career in the US Marine Corps. He served 26 years in active service and another 4 years in Fleet Reserve. He retired in June of 1972 with the rank of Captain.
Following military service, Tony was employed for 20 years with First Citizens Bank at Camp Lejeune, NC. He retired in 1991 as Vice President.
Tony was a social and active man who was deeply involved with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in NC, the Sudan Shriners, and devoted 50 years of service as a Master Mason of the Semper Fidelis#680 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in NC.
After retirement, Tony spent his remaining time as an avid “traveler”. His goal was to see as much of the world as possible. He set out to see the world via ship. Tony succeeded in meeting his goal by setting foot in locations on every continent.
The remainder of his life was spent with family and friends. He will forever be cherished by all and remembered as “grandpop with no hair” and G-pop by his great-granddaughters.
