Bruce was born two months early, on February 14, 1959 and spent the first several weeks of his life in the hospital as a tiny preemie who might not make it to the outside world. Once he got there, he spent every waking moment living life to the fullest, sometimes to the point of exasperation, but always with joy, to his parents Jim & LaVerne. All along the way he loved all the people he met.
Bruce grew up in Vestal, New York and attended Vestal Central High School making close friends with whom he kept in constant contact. He became an avid hockey player, and skier known to do back flips on the slopes of Greek Peak. He loved to visit Vestal, to see his parents, friends and old haunts, to attend his class reunions (VCHS ’77) and to spend a week at Camp of the Woods in the Adirondacks at Speculator, NY. It was at ‘Camp’ that he perfected his sailing skills. He was proud to regularly win the sailboat race around the island, and later in life he raced in their triathlon (swimming, canoeing and running) – winning that too.
Bruce attended Canton Tech, and later University of Phoenix. He worked at Graftek then SUN Microsystems and Oracle where he project managed large multinational projects. He was most proud of his PMP and Scrum experience and talents.
In 1981, Bruce moved to Boulder and lived in Boulder County for the rest of his life. He loved the mountains, skiing, hiking, the Rockies, the Broncos, and of course the CU Buffs. He met the love of his life, Jill Lovrien, and they have been happily married since November 26, 1983. Bruce was virtually adopted by his in-laws Barb and Marsh Lovrien, and he adopted their whole family in return. Bruce and Jill have two children, Jeffrey and Kelsey, and true to character, he was a devoted father treasuring his children more than anything, and instilling valuable life lessons for them to hold forever. Bruce was a regular figure at Monarch High School enthusiastically supporting Mo-Hi Football and held the title “Cheer Dad of the Year” all four years. Bruce and Jill lived in Louisville for the past several decades, where they built a tight community of friends. Bruce embraced his hometown, organizing events on Mulberry Street, judging the Louisville Labor Day Parade, and attending community events with his constant companion Fitzgerald.
Bruce is survived by his wife Jill, his son’s family: Jeffrey and Sarah Beth Alexander and grandson Cliff, his daughter’s family: Kelsey and Shaun Taylor, and his “youngest child” Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his parents Jim and Laverne Alexander, his brother’s family: Jim and Laurie Alexander, Jamie Alexander, Zach and Emily Alexander and their twins Nora and Theo. As well as the Lovrien side: Kay (married to Marshall), Scott, Patty, Scott’s son Mikey, and Todd, Calla and their children, Tyler and Annie. Along with family, Bruce had countless friends and acquaintances. Once Bruce arrived, the outside world became a better place for having Bruce in it.
