Carmel Sheridan Cronin

Born in Oldcastle, Ireland, in 1928, she married Michael Thomas Ignatius Cronin, a scientist, physician and veterinarian, in 1950. The couple immigrated to the U.S. in 1952, had nine children and ultimately settled in New Haven, Connecticut.

Carmel’s spirit and sparkling wit infused her every endeavor. She was a beauty of impeccable taste, unceasing patience and good humor. Her Roman Catholic faith was central to her life, informed in part by Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, and Thérèse of Lisieux.

Carmel loved the arts, particularly the theater, music and poetry. In Connecticut, she was a member of the North End Club and the North Edgehill Association and a director of the New Haven Soup Kitchen.

In 2006 she moved to Boulder, where she became a parishioner of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and married Frank Bradley.

Carmel was predeceased by her eldest son, Tom (1975), her husband, Michael (2005), and her second husband, Frank (2015). She is survived by her children: Ingrid of Kingston, Pa.; Agnes (Bob Rosin) of San Francisco; Geraldine (William T. Burke) of Rutland, Vt.; Charles (Mary Shallman) of Corona del Mar, California.; Arthur (Donna) of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.; Carmel (Terence Gill) of Boulder, Colorado Brenda of New York, and Michael (Lisa) of Littleton, Colorado. She had 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A requiem mass will be held at 10 o’clock at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Saturday, September 28.
