Dorothy Thurman Prather was born December 3, 1922, in Boulder, Colorado and died in Louisville, Colorado on July 2, 2011. She was 88 years old. She was known to friends as “Dotty.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Prather. She is survived by her five children: Madhavii Shirman, Vimala McClure, Sydney Reali, Katie Prater, and Tom Ward. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was a native of Boulder; her father, Frank Thurman, was mayor of Boulder from 1940 to 1948. Dorothy was in the first graduating class of Boulder High School and attended the University of Colorado for one year before entering nurses training at Children’s Hospital and graduating in 1944. After graduating and becoming a registered nurse, she moved to California and Nevada where she lived for 11 years before returning to Colorado. Her professional life, besides hospital nursing, included working as a Public Health Nurse and as Director of Nursing at the Boulder Medical Center. She served as President of Boulder County District 12 of the Colorado Nurses Association. She worked at the Boulder Medical Center until retirement.
Dorothy enjoyed dancing, tennis, playing bingo, the mountains, Boulder and she loved to travel.
Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Crist Mortuary in Boulder at 3395 Penrose Place.
