Jack attended High School in Erie Kansas, then attended college at KU in Topeka Kansas before entering the Army in 1954. Being afraid of heights he maintained helicopters in Japan till he finished his service and went to meet his family in Boulder Colorado. While his dad was building houses Jack apprenticed to be a carpenter, after meeting his wife, Sheri Millard at the skating rink he went back to college at CU where he earned his degree and started working at Rocky Flats on atom bombs. They soon began a family starting with their first son Mark followed quickly by Linda a year later, and Jack (Jay) 5 years later.
With his three children to witness he received his degree, student taught in Boulder Colorado and moved to Downey California to teach history at El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera California. He was teaching in the 1960’s and his “Status Symbol” was a 1951 chevy pickup which he painted flowers all over to cover up the chipping paint. During this time his fourth child Julie was born.
His brother-in-law, Sig Lindstrom, had ventured into owning his own Sand and Gravel Truck that had turned into a good business, he invited Jack to purchase one too. Teaching not paying what it should Jack moved back to Denver and bought a Truck. That summer he got the truck on the road and his four kids had adventures living with different relatives. By the time school started the family was back together and living on South Sheridan Blvd. in Denver. Eventually, the business was overwhelmed and he took a position driving a bus for RTD in Denver.
He retired from RTD sold his place in Denver and moved to Trinidad to pursue his dream of being an artist. He created many paintings and carvings during this time which he displayed and sold in the Galleries in Trinidad and Raton NM. As his abilities diminished, he moved back to Denver to be with his kids where he passed away.
Memorial Service to be held in conjunction with his wife Sheri Millard at Forefront Church, 2112 S Patton Ct. Denver CO. on Saturday, July 30th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
