Jean Gilliland

Jean was born on August 30, 1923 to John and Olive MacKay in Haviland, Kansas. She began a career in nursing after graduating from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita in 1944. She married Robert Thaine Gilliland on March 14, 1945 in Charlestown, South Carolina and shortly after moved back to their home state of Kansas. Moving to Boulder, Colorado in 1951 Jean worked as the charge nurse at Boulder Community Hospital. Bob and Jean had two children, Robert Thaine Gilliland II and Kay Gilliland Gilbert both of Lafayette, Colorado.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a granddaughter, Jenna MacKay Gilliland. She is survived by her two children, granddaughter JoEllyn Gilliland and grandson Ryan Gilbert. Jean is also survived by her brother George MacKay and his wife, Garnet and their four children: Margaret (Jim) Garcia, John MacKay, Kathleen MacKay, and Tom MacKay.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Crist Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurses Association in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, 970-879-1632.
