February 12, 1923 –April 15, 2011
Lynn E. Browne, 88, formerly of Batavia, NY, and Philadelphia, died peacefully at Frasier Meadows after a series of illnesses. He was the only child of Lew and Rose Browne. He attended the Wharton School of Business and graduated in absentia, having enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served as an officer for three years in London during WWII. Upon his return, he married Phyllis Shiekman in Philadelphia. They raised three children: Spencer, Hillary and Andrew. After the death of his wife in 1983, he returned to his hometown of Batavia, New York.
In addition to being a business owner, Lynn was a tireless volunteer and a great benefactor. He was the treasurer of the local history museum, served Meals on Wheels, participated in Kiwanis and was president of the Jerome Foundation. He also served as president of the Genesee Community College Foundation. In 2006, the Alpha Award was created to honor his commitment to the college. As recently as this past November, he was awarded the title of Director Emeritus of the GCC Foundation. During the hospitalization that precipitated his move to Colorado, Lynn was gratified to learn that many of the nurses caring for him were educated at GCC. He also was also honored as Geneseean of the Year for community service.
Lynn moved here less than one year ago and resided at Balfour. His wife Phyllis and two sons, Spencer and Andrew, pre-deceased him. He is survived by his daughter, Hillary Browne: son-in law Michael Klymkowsky, daughter-in-law, Carmen Browne and three grandchildren, Rebecca, Sara and Andrew Klymkowsky.
Lynn Browne will be remembered with love by his numerous friends and his family for his kindness and loyalty, for always and consciously being a good person and doing the right thing; and for his generosity. He always made things easier for those around him.
