Born on October 12, 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a fanaticism for all things Gator Sports bit him in college, growing with intensity with each football season and National Title. At an early age, Mike demonstrated a strong capacity for analytics and computers which led to a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida.
While attending school he joined Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity where he made cherished friends that would become his ‘other’ family. After graduation, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University. This is where he would meet a young law student by the name of Amy Powell who became his heart and soul. He would say that aside from his children, convincing her to marry him would be one of his greatest life accomplishments.
The couple consecrated and celebrated their commitment as husband and wife on August 20, 1994 in Atlanta, Georgia. After several years of making a home and pursuing shared interests, they moved to Boulder, Colorado, to be closer to the outdoor lifestyle they both enjoyed. It would be here that they would sink deep roots and begin their family.
Everyone who knows Mike understands the profound love and devotion he felt for his wife and two children – Jason, age 20 and Kacey, age 18. Mike worked incredibly hard at fatherhood and was rewarded with boundless memories of watching his kids grow into the amazing young people they are today. His love for them and Amy goes far beyond pride or passion; they were his life, and greatest honor.
Mike will be remembered for living fully with an adventurous spirit, pushing the boundaries of his physical endurance with great joy , following his God-given gift of curiosity and learning (especially all things techie and mechanical), laughing with a big heart, keeping loyalty at the top of his to-do list, loving friends like family and family like the great gifts he knew God had blessed him with in this life.
In addition to being loved and cherished by his amazing wife and kids, Mike’s life was filled with many special people: his mother, Rita Monroe and husband Chris; his father, Joseph DePasquale and wife Grace, his sister Eva Rulapaugh, husband Marty and their children, Rachel and Dean; Amy’s extended family – Lynn, Lynda, Doug, John, Holly, Katie and her husband Matt.
Additionally, Mike leaves a great legacy of magnificent friends in Colorado, Georgia and Florida that he cherished and enjoyed supporting and spending time with. Mike had such great friends because he knew how to be a good friend and sought to do that every day (and because he was always happy to share a homebrew or two with them).
