Michael “Mike” Kiyomi Hirota May 27, 1969 to April 24, 2021
Michael passed away peacefully and in the presence of his mother and spouse after losing his battle with COVID-19 pneumonia. He is survived by his parents, Ted and Clara Hirota, his spouse, Kristen Hirota and two brothers, Jon Hirota and Craig Hirota.
Described by friends and family as a generous, kind, intelligent and thoughtful soul, Michael was known for his love of family and friends, baseball, soccer, shooting sports, movies and classical music. During the pandemic, he began teaching himself how to play the piano and deepened his appreciation of opera. He was a dedicated and loving husband, brother and son.
Born and raised in California, Michael first came to Colorado in 1987 where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Theology at Boston College in Massachusetts.
A husband of almost 20 years, Michael met his wife, Kristen in Massachusetts through the local Somerville Community Chorus. Michael and Kristen were married on the Boston College campus at the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 2002 and relocated to Colorado in 2004. In Colorado, the couple enjoyed season tickets to the Colorado Rapids, the Boulder Bach Festival, the Longmont Symphony Orchestra and the Colorado Rockies.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the health care workers and staff at the U.C. Health for their tireless and compassionate care for Michael in his fight against COVID and for their kind and gentle handling of his final moments.

My desk cubicle was next to the cubicle that Mike would occupy when he visited SENS, usually every Wednesday.
Very cordial and helpful. Great sense of humor!
Pretty much available anytime you needed him.
Was very shocked and saddened by his passing!
Miss him a lot.
God bless his soul and Family

I only knew Mike in a professional capacity as he was my company’s primary IT service provider for many years. He was a man of integrity, responsiveness, and cheerfulness. Always happy to help out. All of us at SENS who worked with him miss him and are saddened by his passing. We offer our condolences to his family, friends, and others who worked with him. Rest In Peace Mike.
