1918 - 2012
Olive Bartlett passed away June 14, 2012, in Boulder Colorado at age 94. She had been a resident of the Academy at Bella Vista in Boulder for the past year.
From 1979 to 2010 Olive lived in Tucson with her second husband, Professor Neil Bartlett, former head of the Department of Psychology at the University of Arizona. Neil predeceased her in 2008. Prior to her residence in Tucson she lived in Boulder for 16 years, Tenafly, NJ for 13 years with 1 year in San Diego, CA, 1956-1957, and spent her previous adult years in the Bronx, NY and Washington, D.C. She was active in the League of Women Voters, competitive tennis tournaments, and bridge groups. She celebrated her 90th birthday by fulfilling a long time dream of flying in a glider.
Olive was born in Solon, Maine, and frequented a cabin on Lake Moxie as a youth. She had also lived in Vermont, and loved to return to the lake region of Maine and New England for vacations. An avid traveler, she and Neil, a fellow New Englander from Vermont, visited numerous countries around the world, but Paris and the Maritime Provinces of Canada were particular favorites.
She also maintained a great interest in world peace, political, and environmental issues. As a World Federalist, she frequently brought her pacifist views and idealism to bear on political and environmental issues and was an avid supporter of nuclear disarmament during the Cold War.
Olive is survived by three children from her first marriage to George E. Hudson, a former physicist: George Hudson (Anne) of Columbus, Ohio, Brian Hudson (Pam) of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Nancy Hudson-Helmuth (Bob) of Boulder. She is also survived by three step-children, David Bartlett (Janice Wezelman) of Tucson, William Bartlett (Susan) of Tucson, Thomas Bartlett of Philadelphia, nine grand-children and three great grand-children.
