Richard Reid Rumelhagen

Rick moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1966 with his family from Illinois.. He attended Paddock Elementary, Martin Park Elementary, Southern Hills Junior High and graduated from Fairview High School in 1974. Rick played basketball in High School and played on the team that played for the State High School Championship in 1974.

Rick's favorite pro basketball team was the Boston Celtics and his favorite player was Larry Bird. Rick was surprised one year by his mom at Christmas time with tickets to attend a game at the Boston Gardens (this was arranged by his sister Michele) to see the Celtics and Larry Bird play. It was a time that he always cherished. He definitely enjoyed it every time the Celtics won the NBA Championship.

Rick worked at McDonald's while in High School, working his way up to Manager. In 1984 Rick began his career at Bestop working in the warehouse. Rick worked at Bestop until his retirement in December of 2024, only retiring because Bestop was relocating to another state. If Rick would of had his way, he would of never retired. He loved his job and it gave him so much pride to go to work everyday and give it his all. He was a very loyal and dedicated employee for 40 years.

Rick was very knowledgeable in politics, history and everyday life. He was an avid reader and loved a variety of movies. He also had a very quick sense of humor, and was always available to his family for whatever they needed. He was also very quick to put his hand in front of his face every time someone wanted to take a picture of him. Every now and then though, you could catch him off guard and get the picture!!

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, a sister, nephew, cousin and 2 brother in laws.

Rick is survived by his sister Lisa Cavazos, brother Rohn Rumelhagen (Diana), former sister-in-law, Eileen Gallagher, nephews Nathan Cavazos and Russell Rumelhagen, niece Elizabeth Rumelhagen and great niece Gabby Cavazos. He is also survived by numerous cousins in Wisconsin and Tennessee. Rick will be greatly missed by all. He was such a great man.

A memorial service will be held for Rick on Thursday, August 28th at 10:30 at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place in Boulder, Colorado. There will be a light breakfast after the service. Internment will immediately follow at Mountain View Memorial Park across the street from Crist Mortuary.
