Dearest Peggy and Bill-
      Last weekend, I knew in my heart that your Mom's spirit was beginning a journey beyond us all. It is with deep heartfelt sadness that I write this to you both. I will treasure a lifetime of memories of your Mom and I will never, ever forget, the greatest gift of all she bestowed upon me, the gift of holding Vic's hand in her place, during her final minutes on this earth. A truly unselfish act, as a mother, on her part. I was sad to see her last year when we arrived at MC, but every visit there, over this past year, I visited two, very important women to me. During my lifetime, I had many discussions about "life" with Ruth, and I always learned something new. She was devoted and very proud of you kids and I know how much you all meant to her, always. I will hold a special place in my heart for Ruth and I know that you will carry her legacy forward as she would have wanted you all to be happy and full of peace in your soul. Although, I am unable to be with you next week for the memorial, I will be thinking of you with gratitude, joy and love in my heart for having been a part of your family. Linda Bump

In the 1980's, Ruth was on duty as a Dorje Kasung at the top of the stairs, at the entry to the Boulder Shambhala Center's Shrine Room vestibule. The occasion was a Varjayogini Abhisheka.  

She was told by the Dorje Kasung supervisor on duty that day, not to let anyone enter the shrine room, who had not taken the abhisheka.  Well, along came Dapon James Gimian, the International Commander of the Gesar Arm of the Dorje Kasung.  Ruth being rather new at events such as this, stopped him.  

Dapon Gimian, being one who loved the playful aspect of a challenge, had a spirited exchange with her, to the effect that we could hear it floating down the stairwell to the floor below.  Ruth would not let him enter the shrine room. 

Finally, it became apparent through her questioning of him, that he was qualified to be allowed entry.  He praised her highly for stopping him, and told all the Dorje Kasung on duty that day, and in classes that he taught, how great it was that Ruth stopped him, and was not just allowed entry, because of the position he held within the Dorje Kasung.   He remarked that Ruth was a great Dorje Kasung!  It's an example we still use to train Dorje Kasung today.

I remeber Ruth from many years at the Shambhala center and in recent years as our sangha sister in Mangala Shri Bhuti. Ruth has been an inspiration to us all as she has aged beautifully and gracefully, keeping her inner strength and sense of humor through old age and death. I remember when she broke her feet- her smile and statement that it "tingled". I never heard a complaining word from her through loss and illness. She is exactly the same age as my mother, posessing the quiet but palpable strength that generation carries,and of course has been a kind elder to us all. We will miss her greatly and I know that the practice for her at this time is as much for us as it is for her. Love, Erris

I'm doing practice for Ruthie, and my mom and I will miss her - it was good to be able to spend time with her, sharing hugs or petting our Trinley dog together over at Manorcare. She offered a beautiful smile just a few days ago. A strong practitioner and good woman - here's to her next adventure!
