Steven was born in Colorado to Jane and Phil Pitzer on October 24, 1990. You could say that this adventurous young man gained as much knowledge outside of the Nederland schools as he did in them. Some of his favorite activities were Cub Scouts, karate, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling and dirt biking (until he broke his tail bone). And then, Steve just had to try his hand at bull riding on the Gilpin Rodeo Team (until he broke his collar bone). That was Steven—living life to the fullest.
Following high school Steven received his Class-A Commercial Driving License (CDL) and went to work for Caribou Ranch. There he fell in love with the ranching lifestyle which included hauling hay, cattle and horses between the ranches outside of Nederland and Montana. He also worked building fences, entry ways, and doing all the daily tasks of a working ranch. He became a volunteer firefighter, operated equipment for Boulder County Road Maintenance, and sharpened his tree climbing skills while working for the family business, High Timber Firewood & Logging. It wouldn’t be unusual to see Steve driving around town with his dog Aspen riding shotgun.
Steven is preceded in death by his maternal Grandmother, Renee Dobransky, his Aunt Stephanie Call, and his Uncle Hughie Pitzer. Steven is survived by his sisters, Jessica (Brandon) Strouse and Katie (Dan) Walker, his parents Jane and Phil Pitzer, Niece Raleyn Strouse, Nephew Mason Walker, Grandparents Bob Dobransky and Hugh and Erma Pitzer. He leaves behind a large extended family and many dear friends who loved and will miss him very much.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Nederland on Saturday, October 1st at 12 noon. In lieu of meals or flowers, the family invites you to consider making a donation in Steven’s name to either Rangeview Counseling Center or the Nederland Volunteer Fire Department.
