Alonzo S. "Harold" Greenway, of Bradenton passed away on Dec 7, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born July 19, in Swainsboro Georgia, but spent most of his life in Florida. His youth was spent in Frostproof and after he married in 1956, he lived 26 years in Avon Park, 29 years in Lecanto and his last 6 years in Bradenton.
Harold was employed as a Master Mechanic with Florida Power Corporation (now Duke Energy) and retired after 37 years from the Crystal River Plant site in 1995. He also worked part-time in the Citrus Industry while living in Avon Park.
Harold was a 50 year member of the Poinciana Masonic Lodge #227 in Avon Park and was also a Shriner and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He also served as a Captain with the Highlands County Sheriff's Department, under Sheriff Joe Shepherd, while living in Avon Park.
He loved to fish and finally landed the "Big One" - a 12 1/12 pound freshwater bass in 1980 at Livingston Lake in Frostproof. His favorite vacation spot was on the Western Gulf shores of Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island and he enjoyed most of his summer vacations relaxing on these beautiful beaches with immediate and extended family members. Harold loved animals and always had a favorite dog as his companion when he was working around his property.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra, children Lynne (Keith) Brewer of Johns Creek, GA and Cyndee (Roger) Picard of Bradenton, grandchildren Jonathan Picardof Bradenton FL, Hilary (Joe) Seda of Newberry FL, Ashley (Chad) DeRose of Winder GA, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother, Sammy (Gwen) Greenway of Frostproof and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nana Lou (Brantley) and Sanford Greenway, and his youngest brother Robert Greenway.
A Graveside Service will be held on Dec. 12,2019 at 11AM, in the Rotunda at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave E, Bradenton Florida. Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home is entrusted with his final care. A reception will be held immediately following the service for all friends of the family at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home.
