David Buel Psalmonds was always there, in every sense of the word, for his family and friends.
Regardless of the task, request or need, if asked, you could depend upon David to be there for you. He
would help carry your burden, tangible or not, with an indefatigable patience and complete absence of
judgment. Self assured and confident in who he was, what he believed and how he lived his life; this
combined with his gentle nature allowed those who knew and loved him to have, what presently seems
increasingly rare, an unguarded and authentic conversation, relationship or connection.
He is missed deeply by his family, friends and the community he’s served and lived in his entire life. David
lived and cared deeply for them as well. He lived across the street from his older brother and sister-in-law
Michael and Connie Psalmonds and they cherish every moment this allowed David to be a welcome and
constant presence in their lives. His older sisters Erma Lee and Glenda Psalmonds always doted on their
little brother and loved hearing his deep and joyous baritone laugh. His nieces Emily Switlyk and Jessica
Michel and nephew James Lee Jr. looked up to him as both an uncle and older confidant.
David possessed a strong faith, pride in country and commitment to duty. David was born on June 24th
1965 in Bradenton, FL. After graduating Manatee High School as a member of the class of 1983 he
entered the United States Coast Guard and served along the gulf coast. He left with an appreciation for
military history and an uncanny ability to tie obscure knots -- which actually came in handy on multiple
occasions at boat docks or when trying to hoist heavy objects. He worked for over two decades in the
telecommunications field and served the Brandenton and Tampa Bay area as an air pressure technician.
He took pride in his craft and possessed an inimitable sense of duty. His company and colleagues could
depend upon him and he unintentionally won perfect attendance awards.
He had an innate and self-taught artistic ability, manifesting when he was young as someone who could
recreate uncanny facsimiles of his favorite comic book scenes. Art was always a love but never
professionally pursued and he used his talent to bring joy to his young nieces and nephews. The “Care
Bears” and FSU Seminoles wall murals David painted for Emily for her 4th and 14th birthdays
respectively still leave an indelible impression on her; they meant the world to her that someone would
invest so much time and talent into turning a child’s room into a sanctuary of their dreams.
But that was just David, always selfless and willing to go the extra mile when asked or needed. He was
unconcerned about the vanities of life, happily commuting to work in a 20 or 2 year old car, it was all the
same to him. Rather he was a true good samaritan and always there in your time of need.
Almost
everyone has a David story of how his patience for his family and friends would never run out. They could
talk and he would listen empathetically for hours and you always felt better afterwards and with him in
your life. He truly has a heart of gold, and although we all miss him more than words can describe we also
know David is at peace. We love you David and thank you for all the good and joy you’ve brought to our
lives. Until we’re united again...
