Norma Belle Markham

Originally from Texas, Norma was born to the late Carl and Mattie Stanley. She is survived by her sister, Carletta Guillory, and was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel Volpini.

A largely self-taught woman, Norma was exceptionally well read with a vast knowledge of literature and the arts. She loved the theatre— on stage, in the audience, or in a supportive role for its production—and found deep joy in its expression. Norma’s faith was profound, immense, and filled with anticipation and peace for “what it will be like on the other side.”

Many may not know that Norma was once a painter, working in oils. Sadly, her collection of paintings was destroyed in storage, but they remain deeply missed. She was also passionate about interior design and had a remarkable gift for hospitality. Through southern cooking, entertaining, and the countless unseen roles she embraced, she provided the foundation for her family’s success.

Norma was the devoted mother of two children. She outlived her daughter, Teresa Lynn Markham, who passed at the age of 40 in 1990. Norma is survived by her son, Chuck Markham, of New Jersey. Her dearest friend, Tanya Gilmer, of Georgia, there till the end, survives her as well.

She leaves behind a loving legacy of her grandchildren, Heather Lambert and Wesley Lambert (children of her previously deceased beloved and deeply missed daughter Teresa Markham), and Samantha Frankel and Zoe Hobor (children of her son Chuck Markham), as well as her great-grandchildren - (of Heather) Baylee, Callie, Chevy, Gavin, and Joseph, (of Wesley) Bella, Dylan, Grace and Zack, (of Samantha) Emery and Nathan, and (of Zoe) Adam, as well as great-great-grandchildren.

Her joyful and effervescent spirit touched every person and aspect of life she entered, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, creativity, and love.

Norma really did not want flowers at her Memorial Service. So in lieu of flowers, we would encourage those who wish to, to donate to one of her favorite activities and amazing talents - the theater, specifically, her closest friend Tanya's theater - Lionheart Theatre in Norcross, GA.
