Rosemary Weeks was born and raised in Astoria, Queens on August 10, 1934. She met and the love of her life, Ralph Weeks, at a soda fountain and married at an early age. She wasted no time achieving her life’s passion, starting a family. She gave birth to four daughters which she raised through all sorts of joy and adversity. From being a single mother while her husband was deployed in Korea, to crossing the country at a moments notice to help her children, she did anything and everything to help and support her family. As well as her four daughters, she leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She felt it was one of the greatest blessing of her life to be able to see the birth of her great-grandchildren and hold them in are arms.
Through her life, she had a multitude of diverse occupations. She served as the head-waitress of Cookie’s Steakpub, cook at a rectory, like her mother, Matron of a school bus and reception manager at Long Island Gastroenterology. Although her occupations varied, one thing was always consistent, she was an incandescent source of pure joy. She brought warmth, love and laughter wherever she went.
She adored Florida, and was so happy that she could spend most of her golden years in the sunshine state. She would often drive to Daytona Beach and park right on the sand, gazing at the surf for hours. It was also not uncommon to see her on her race car red motor scooter exploring her neighborhood on a warm sunny day.
She made lifelong friends wherever she went and left indelible marks on their lives. In any gathering, it was inevitable to find a crowd organically form around her while she told story after story to a spell-bound audience. She adored broadway and live performance. It was clear that in another life she would have been headlining any number of stages. She was our Dolly Levi. She will be deeply missed and live in our hearts forever.
