Dorothy lived in Brentwood for the past three years, but she was born in Linn, Kansas on April 17, 1935. She was the youngest of nine siblings (all of which have preceded her in death). After graduating from Linn Rural High School, Dorothy graduated from Brown-Mackie School of Business. She met her husband of 57 years, John, in Salina, KS on a blind date. She worked for American Optical Company in Salina. After getting married, Dorothy and John moved from Kansas to Pueblo, CO. After a year they moved again to Fresno, CA before eventually settling in San Jose, CA for 11 years. In San Jose they raised their two young sons, Tim and John. Dorothy was active at Apostles’ Lutheran Church in San Jose and worked in the Business Office at Montgomery Ward department store. Dorothy and John then moved to Cameron Park, CA (in the Sierra Nevada foothills) where they lived for the next 30 years. Dorothy became a member of Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church in Sacramento, CA. And she continued to work at the Montgomery Ward store in Sacramento for many years before retirement. In her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed tending to her garden, family camping, bible study, time with friends playing games and traveling throughout the United States with her husband, John in their RV. She enjoyed family vacations and holiday gatherings. Dorothy and John enjoyed a long retirement in Cameron Park before they moved to Westmont of Brentwood to be closer to their sons’ families.
Dorothy’s dry wit and direct approach was appreciated by all. She warmed people’s heart, approached everyone with an open heart and acceptance. She was a great role model and a woman of wisdom and grace. Dorothy was loved dearly by her children and family. She will be missed.
