Matthew Kurtz

Matthew Allen Kurtz, 27, passed away peacefully in his Discovery Bay home just before the New Year began on December 31, 2012, succumbing to Muscular Dystrophy. He was born in Oceanside CA and grew up in Benicia CA, attending Benicia High School.

Matthew loved life. He had a passion for science, Anime (Japanese animated films), video games, and his family. He particularly enjoyed being a big brother to his 3 little sisters. He traveled to many beautiful places across the United States, Mexico and Canada. A highlight of his life was being a guest of Edward Olmos on the set of his favorite TV show Battlestar Galactica, where he had a small part during the filming of the, “Taking a Break From All Your Worries”, episode.

Matthew is survived by his mother and adoptive father, Marilyn and Craig Strunk; his sisters Kimberly Lazzarevich, and Emily, Hannah and Hailey Strunk; maternal grandmother, Bertha Rose; father and stepmother, Mark and Lisa Kurtz; stepbrother Jason Billings; extended family in Missouri, Washington, Colorado, and California. His loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends and family are invited to attend his memorial service, Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1360 E. Tregallas Road in Antioch. A reception will follow the service at the church.
