Dorette Marie Howard

She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 22,1958 to the late, Wilson L. Howard and Dorothy Roselia Leslie Hewlett.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Wilson L. Howard, II and Mother, Mrs. Dorothy Hewlett Howard.

She graduated with a BS in Psychology and Social Work from Xavier University, New Orleans, Louisiana, followed by a Masters degree from Loyola University of New Orleans, Louisiana in Counseling Psychology.

She worked for many years as a Social Worker and Counselor. Her career was shortened by our Mother’s illness in which she became her primary caregiver for ten or more years. Dorette loved the Nashville Opera, Symphony, and religious programming. She was a member of the Columbiette’s Lady’s Sodality of Tampa, Florida. Registered Social Worker, BS/MS/ RSW, Louisiana, Licensed Pharmacy Technician, Tennessee.

Dorette was a wonderful, loving sister and auntie. She was a devout Catholic and devoted to her family. She prayed many times a day, every day for us, for the church, for world events, and for people she would never know. She encouraged education, the love of God as a part of living a good life. Her very name means Gift and she was truly a gift from God to all of us who love and will always love her.

She always enjoyed her cookies, candy and sweets. She called it her happy time.

She is survived by: Rhondalyn H. Singh Tanwar (sister), Hewlett Joseph Howard (brother), Wilson L. Howard III (brother), Teresa Francis Howard (sister-in-law), Courtney Clark Howard (sister-in-law), Rhondje M. Singh Tanwar (nephew), Eeleyah A. Singh Tanwar (niece), Wilson L. Howard IV (nephew), Reena Howard (niece).

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 601 Bell Rd, Antioch, TN 37013 with a Rosary Service an hour prior. A private Graveside service will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
