Susan Katherine Branscome

Susan Katherine Branscome, 77, of Brentwood, TN, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2025. Born on March 18, 1947, at Misericordia Hospital in New York City, Susan grew up on 88th and later 89th Street between Lexington Ave and Third Ave. She attended Saint Ignatius Loyola School on E 84th and later Blessed Sacrament High School, located at 71st St and Broadway, then graduated from the Grace Institute—an experience that shaped her practical, determined spirit before beginning a career in advertising on Madison Ave.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Susan’s many summer trips with friends to Europe inspired her, and in 1974 she took the leap and moved to Switzerland. While based in Lausanne, she worked for the International Air Transport Association in Geneva. It was in Europe that Susan eventually met Donald Branscome through a mutual friend, and they were married on April 6, 1980 at the UN Chapel in New York City. The couple later returned to the United States, living first in South Carolina and Pennsylvania before finally settling in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her two brothers James and Kenneth Kelly, and her parents, Katherine “Kitty” Kelly and Cornelius “Sonny” Kelly. She is survived by her son, Daniel Branscome, and her two grandchildren, Dean and Claire.

Susan loved to travel, enjoyed a good book or show—especially mysteries and thrillers—and appreciated good music, laughter, a glass of wine, and an afternoon cup of tea. She was always ready with a thoughtful note or care package for a friend. As a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and loyal friend, Susan touched the lives of everyone around her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM at the Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Brentwood, TN—the same location where her husband’s service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (https://www.heart.org/).

Susan will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
