This is Alexander D’Ambrosio, our 77-year-old Dad that we all love. He was known as Alex, Junior, or Pop. We have a love/hate relationship with this picture though. This picture was taken on 07/15/2020. We love it because he was doing what gave him the most joy besides his family, and that was helping people. He was a humanitarian and would do anything for anybody. He was strong and worked hard his whole life, more than anyone we know, even in retirement. If you needed help with anything, you could call our Dad and he would be there. He was generous, funny, a great family historian, and storyteller. He travelled and always lived his life to the fullest. He has always been the hero of our big, Italian family. We hate this picture because this is the day he believed he contracted the coronavirus. As you can see, he was not wearing a mask. He served 130 families this day at a food drive at his church. We hope they fair better than he did. Our Dad passed away August 13, 2020 from complications of the virus after a 25-day illness which included 17 hard fought days in the ICU. He always seemed invincible to us. We love him, will miss him forever, and will honor his life by emulating his best characteristics.
Alex is survived by his wife Sylvia, children Andrea Achatz and Eric Achatz, Gina D’Ambrosio, Alex D’Ambrosio and Danielle Sonsini, Julie and Hal Lineback, Sissi and Joe Antonini, Staci and Tom Cieplenski, along with their children and grandchildren. There are also big, extended families on both sides.
If you would like to help us, and all of you, celebrate his life in these times when we cannot gather safely, please comprise and send an email of a favorite story, experience, memory, or something you loved about him to [email protected]. We will put a tribute book together and email a final copy to everyone who contributes. It will be an excellent way for us to share our stories with each other. We ask that any donations go to https://thefarmlinkproject.org. It is an organization formed by college students to fight hunger and restoring jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please follow the recommendations of doctors and scientists, stay home as much as possible, and wear a mask when you have to go out.
