Wayne was born in Charleston, West Virginia on November 4, 1942, where he grew up loving the mountains and the simpler times of the 1940's and 50's. He always looked back fondly on those "good 'ol days." He especially enjoyed sharing stories about the adventures he had with his cousins, who were more like brothers to him—like the times they would swing on the thick muscadine grape vines growing wild in the trees.
During those formative years, his Uncle Alec gifted him a Gibson guitar. Little did he know at the time that gift would become a lifelong love of his and a defining trait of his character. Wayne was a teacher at heart, always ready to share his passion for playing, which ultimately inspired many of his grandchildren to pick up the guitar and play as well, which filled his heart with joy.
In April of 1959, Wayne moved to Brooksville, Florida. He attended Hernando High School, where he proudly played defense for the Hernando High Leopards football team. He was also heavily involved with the FFA, helping to plant some of the pine tree groves north of Brooksville on Hwy 41.
On September 10, 1982, Wayne married his beloved wife, Patricia Valentine. He brought a strong work ethic to everything he did and in the 1970s he worked for The Deltona Corporation, helping to shape the landscape of the state by building residential neighborhoods all over Florida. Later, he spent over 30 years behind the wheel of a semi-tractor trailer for Commercial Carrier Corporation (CCC). During his long tenure on the road, he earned the prestigious "Million Mile Award" for safe driving, an achievement he carried with immense pride.
Wayne always had a smile on his face, was always happy, and truly loved life. He was an inspiration to many because he kept his legendary sense of humor no matter what was thrown his way. He was a very special man who made everyone he met feel important, and everyone he knew held a special place in his heart.
The world lost some of its brightness and color with his passing, but his joyful spirit lives on through his large, loving family.
