Terry was born in Carmel, Indiana to Earleen and Charles Robert (C.R.) Baker on September 20, 1950. He began living in Florida in the 1970s to escape the Indiana winters. Despite settling permanently in Brooksville, FL in 1984, when he married his wife, Ernestine, he never considered himself a Floridian. “If a cat has kittens in the oven, you wouldn’t call them biscuits,” he’d often say.
Terry worked a number of jobs over the years, several in construction. It wasn’t until later in life that he began a “real office job,” as he put it, with Condenser Products and later at Interconnect Cable and Technology Corp (ICTC). He retired from this position in 2012.
Terry was a passionate animal lover. Over the years, he cared for countless animals–he viewed himself as the local animal shelter, helping feed the neighborhood strays.
Terry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, C. Ernestine Baker (Gant); his parents and stepfather, Richard Hiatt; his sister, who died at birth, Sharon Sue Baker; and his brother, Gene Baker.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Gene Brown, Bill Brown, James Brown, and Tina Scarduzio; two grandchildren, Christina Moore and John Moore; along with his sister-in-law, Renaye Baker; nieces, Missy Rump and Debbie Kaufmann; and nephew, William Baker.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30am, May 22, 2024 at the Loyce Cemetery, 17201 Cemetery Road, Shady Hills, FL 34610, with his nephew, William Baker officiating.
