

David Lipthratt was born October 4, 1932 in Brunswick, Georgia. He was the son of the late David Colon Lipthratt, Sr. and Martha Pope Lipthratt. He was a graduate of the Glynn Academy Class of 1951 in Brunswick. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Mr. Lipthratt was a meter and instrument mechanic at Brunswick Pulp and Paper Co. and retired in 1985 after 34 years. He was actively employed by the Glynn County Board of Education, Transportation Department as a school bus driver for the past 21 years. He was a member of Norwich Baptist Church for 65 years where he served as a Deacon and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
He was an avid bass and guitar player and dearly loved to play Bluegrass music. He enjoyed playing at events and church with his wife, Rita, who is a pianist.
David is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Rita Carter Lipthratt; daughters: Ronda McMillan (Joel, deceased), Roxanne Lipthratt-Harvey (Carmel, deceased), Rena Boudreaux (Darin Harlow), sons: Russell Lipthratt (Kathy), Rory Lipthratt (Barbara), Robert Lipthratt (Kim), Randy Gordon (Donna); grandchildren: Kristen, Austin, and Jordyn Lipthratt, Ashley and Brandon McMillan, David Harvey, Brittney Lipthratt, Nathan and Chelsea Boudreaux, Kayla Gordon, Maurey Bowles; great grandchildren: Hannah Harvey, Victoria and Nathan IV Boudreaux; brother: Bobby Lipthratt (Naomi); uncle: D.W. Pope (Joann); several nieces, nephews, cousins and his k-9 friend, Sparky.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 22, 2011, at Norwich Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service, with burial to follow at Chapel Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home on Thursday. Dr. Art Cyphers and Rev. Jack Pricken will be officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Norwich Baptist Church, Fishermen Sunday School Class, Howard Mann, Ron Lee, Ed Bostic, Tonja Bradley, Regina Faust, James Bollinger, Larry Bradham, Gene Taylor, Christopher Brown, Percy McCaster, Curtis Burch Jr., Ricky Burch, all school bus drivers and aides, and former employees of Brunswick Pulp and Paper, members of the Glynn Academy Class of 1951, and Dr. Antonio Moran and Staff.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
