Elton Ricks

Elton was born in Brunswick, Georgia on November 22, 1919 the son of the late T.L. Ricks and the late Neta Ricks. He was a graduate of Glynn Academy where he was a star football player and was voted Best All Round Superlative. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Elton was a retired salesman with EM Champion and later worked at FLETC as a role player.

Elton was a man of faith and active in his community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brunswick where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for several years. He was also a Scout Master, one of the original founders of the Brunswick Country Club, and a Kiwanis Club member. Elton was a Mason for seventy-five years with Ocean Lodge #214 F.& A.M, a member of Ballard Council, No 66 R.A.M, and a member for 75 years with St Elmo Commandery #21, Knights Templar of Brunswick, Georgia

Elton was preceded in death by his parents, TL and Neta Ricks; his first wife, Julia Agnes Ricks; his late wife Mary Frances Ricks. He was also preceded in death by his eight siblings. Left to cherish his memories are his two sons, E. Elton Ricks (Donnell) and Charles L. Ricks (Charlotte); one daughter, Mary Simmons (Randy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces, and several nephews.

Elton was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter. He also loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and dancing. He was an active member of the Escort Dancing Club. Elton will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.

The family will receive friends during the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the First Methodist Church in Brunswick, Georgia with Reverend Bill Culpepper and Reverend Jim Crandall officiating. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery, with Masonic Rites.
