Elvira Dolores Bowen was born August 26, 1924, as number seven of eight children in the Pompinio family, in South Plainfield New Jersey. She trained as a commercial artist at Traphagen School of Design, graduating in 1945. In 1961, she married the love of her life Wayne Bowen and in due course gave birth to their children, Diane and Robert. She worked as office administrator for 20 years, at Wayne Bowen’s OB/GYN practice. In 1998, they retired to St Simons Island, the family favorite vacation location. Inspired by the natural beauty of the island, she resumed painting and enjoyed social organizations. She was affectionately known by all as Ma Bowen.
Throughout her life, she honored her Lord and Savior as daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. Her paintings reflect the joy that was hers as a believer in Jesus Christ, the Only Savior. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Wayne, her daughter Diane Chilton, her son Robert Bowen and three cherished grandsons Michael, Daniel and Jackson.
