Joe was born on February 14, 1934, in Darien, Georgia, to the late James Herbert Corlette and Edna Caroline Davis Corlette. After graduating from Darien High School, he went on to enlist in the United States Navy. In 1956, Joe married Mary Nell Lynn Corlette, and together they built a military life in Norfolk, Virginia and Key West, Florida. Joe retired after over 26 years of service and settled back in his hometown of Darien.
Joe was a man that was always moving, whether it be fishing, bike riding, camping, gardening or going for a 5am jog. He was known for his sense of humor and admired for his intelligence, always quick with a Shakespearean quote or being first to answer the questions on Jeopardy. He was also well known for his love of reading, especially books by Stephen King.
Joe was preceded in death by both of his parents, James and Edna Corlette, his beloved wife Mary Nell, his son, Joey Corlette, and his siblings, Jimmy Corlette, Lillian Lyons, Rebecca Atwood, John Corlette, and Jean Zorn.
Survivors include his daughter, Angie Lynn and husband Mike of Townsend; four grandchildren, Erin Corlette, Chris Lynn and wife Heather, Michael Lynn and wife Jessica, and Bud Davis; seven great grandchildren, Autumn Gault, Colten Gault, Keaton Lynn, Regan Lynn, Maci Lynn, Sara Strickland, and Seth Strickland; one great-great granddaughter, Scarlett Hunter; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday June 23, 2025, from 5pm-7pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church in Darien with Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery.
