Ethel Ellen Atkinson

Ethel Ellen Atkinson, born April 2, 1938, passed away, peacefully, at her home in Glynn County, GA, on July 23, 2022, with loving family at her side. A graveside funeral will be September 23, 2022 at Chapel Park Cemetery, Brunswick, GA, at 10:00 AM. Brother Shawn McViegh will officiate.

Born, and raised in Florida, she married Carl Lane Atkinson Sr. on July 28, 1961, a union that lasted 50 years until her late husband’s passing.

Ethel’s life was filled with family and travel. Her life lead her throughout the southeast and midwest until she and her husband settled in Brunswick. Her loyalty, faithfulness, dedication, and determination were well suited for her life as a military spouse.

Equally impressive is that Ethel had the fortitude to tackle whatever difficulties the world put in front of her with a fire and passion that could not be equaled. Ethel spent most of her time doing things that she loved to do, never wanting to sit still unless she was reading a book or watching the hummingbirds that frequented her back porch. Her hobbies included walking St. Simon Island’s Pier, reading books, tending to her flower garden, watching hummingbirds, and listening to Elvis and Dolly Parton.
