

Florence Maybelle Youngner was born July 1, 1923 to Belle and Jim Moore of Brunswick. Florence lived her entire life in Brunswick and was a 1941 graduate of Glynn Academy.
During WWII she was a local telephone operator at a time when there were party lines and the operators connected callers using the plug to jack switchboard. Following the war she married her childhood sweet heart Sidney Glynn Youngner of Baxley/Brunswick. Florence and Sidney would be the parents of three sons, Glynn, Brad and Alan. Florence was a homemaker and kindergarten teacher for many years. She later worked for the Glynn County School System as a kindergarten and first grade paraprofessional. Many of the students that Florence taught remember her to this day for her piano, creative art projects and her patience in teaching reading, writing and arithmetic.
Florence had been a member of Saint Marks Episcopal Church since her birth and had served the church in many roles through the years including Sunday school teacher, Episcopal Church Women president, member of Saint Agnes Guild, the Alter Guild, one of the first women vestry members of Saint Marks and for several years managed the churches thrift store (now Hello Good Buy).
Florence was a member of The Urbana Garden Club for many years and continued her love of flowers and landscape until her passing. Florence loved to play bridge and dominos.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Sidney, her mother and father Belle and Jim Moore and her sister Jacqueline Walker.
Florence is survived by her brother Jim Moore (Lynn) of Copperas Cove Texas. Her sons all from Brunswick, Glynn (Joy), Brad, and Alan (GeorgeAnne). Eight grandchildren, Josh Youngner (Hollis), Kristen Ryan (Johnny), Jesse Youngner, Leigh Newton (Hank), Leslie Day (Ted), Sydneye Youngner, Sarah Youngner and Elliott Youngner. Eight great-grandchildren, Hayes Youngner, Waylon Newton, Blair Newton, Isabella Day, Luke Day, Wyatt Day, Julie Day and J.D. Day. Cousins, Vera Gallo, Grace Moore and James Stankowitz. Several nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers are The Daughters Of The King, Jimmy Wade, Lamar Floyd, John Kalp, D.O. Chestnut and her Dominos and Bridge friends, Vera Gallo, Kit Mann, Ruth Kent, June Russell, Betty McConnell, Ester Zylstra, Liz O’Meara, Martha Kennedy, Betty June Henderson, Reid Chestnut and Velma Stephens.
Florence’s family would like to thank her close friends for such loving support these past few years. We would also like to thank the Cardiac Intensive Care unit nursing staff and the respiratory staff of Southeast Georgia Health System for the excellent care they provided these past two weeks. We are thankful for Dr William Grubb, Dr Steve Chitty, and Dr Herman Levy for their dedication and for the care provided to our mom the past several years. Over the past two years, there were several special friends and caregivers who made it possible for her to enjoy her daily activities. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 20, 2014 at 11:00 in the sanctuary of Saint Marks Episcopal Church in Brunswick. Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the church parish hall. Internment will take place at a later time.
