Gary Michael Galloway, affectionately known as “The Glowworm,” passed away on March 15, 2026, at the age of 77, resting peacefully in his home on St. Simons Island.
Gary was born on June 29, 1948, in Berkeley, California. He was known for his warmth, steady presence, and the light he brought into the lives of those around him.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Occidental College and worked on his Master’s Degree in Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Gary built a long and respected career in marketing and business, working with the Walton County Hospital System and the Gwinnett County, Georgia Government. Later in life, he dedicated his time to service, volunteering in grant writing and charitable efforts, most notably with The Friends of Gwinnett Seniors Program, supporting senior services such as home delivered meals, medical device delivery, transportation for appointments and home repairs. In his early years, Gary also served in the Peace Corps in South Korea, an experience that reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others.
Gary was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Galloway; his children, Sydney Galloway and Jason Galloway; his daughter-in-law, Alexandra Galloway; his grandchildren, Grace Galloway and Luca Galloway; and his sister, Gael Mallouk. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Norman Galloway (“KG Bird”), and his mother, Muriel Eleanor Galloway.
A man of strong faith, Gary was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Monroe, Georgia. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, having a family history of Eagle Scouts and serving multiple roles within Troop 705 in Monroe, GA and the National Chapter. He also coached and refereed the sports in which his children participated.
Gary found joy in life’s simple pleasures: golfing with friends, cheering on Georgia Tech and Cal sports, tending to his beloved azaleas, and traveling with those he loved. He also loved music, especially The Rolling Stones and lived his life around the idea that “you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need.”
Gary has been cremated and a service will be held in his honor on May 16th at St. Simons United Methodist Church at 11:00 am.
