

Gay Dekle, a longtime resident of St. Simons Island, died Thursday the 8th of December at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Services will be held graveside at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Saturday, December 10th at11:00 a.m. The Reverend Whit Chapman and Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers: Jimmy Orr, Jim Benefield, Chuck Baumgardner, Wayne Bennett, Bruce Latvala, and Gerald Pryor.
Born July 25, 1939 in Savannah, GA to Frank and Sara Davis. Shortly after her family moved to Swainsboro. GA, which is where she grew up. Gay received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia in Education. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Where she served as President and Alumnae State Director. She taught school in Atlanta and at Arco Elementary in Brunswick, GA .Gay is a member of First Baptist Church St. Simons Island, and under the watch care of Frederica Baptist Church of St. Simons Island. Gay taught Sunday School for many years, served as President of the Women’s Missionary Union, and was Co-founder of Mission House, a vacation house for missionaries.
Gay is survived by her husband John Dekle, her son Frank Dekle and his wife Angie, and her grandson Tate. Her cousins Ricky Jacobs (Ralph) of Boone, NC, and Marguerita Prevost t of Waynesville, NC, as well as many dear friends.
