

Gay Saunders Jacobs, 82, of Valona, departed this life Sunday, December 18, 2022 at her residence. A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 11 am in St. Andrews Episcopal Church. A private family inurnment will follow.
Born October 28, 1940 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Dr. Irvin Jasper Saunders and Perry Watson Saunders, she was a lifelong resident of McIntosh County. Mrs. Jacobs was co-owner and accounting manager for Jacobs Seafood for 48 years. She was a member of Georgia Fisherman’s Association in the 70’s and 80’s, served as President of Women’s Dioceses of Georgia Episcopal Church from 1994-1997. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Darien where she served as Senior Warden and Clerk for many years. Mrs. Jacobs enjoyed being active in the church, art, gardening, reading and writing poems, spending time with her family and friends and especially time with her great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sons, Lawrence “Laddy” Jacobs, Jr., Lawrence Anthony “Tony” Jacobs, Douglas Scott Jacobs and a brother Alexander “Sandy” H. Saunders.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Lawrence F. Jacobs, Sr., a daughter, Claire “Meta” Willis and husband James; a sister, Sybil Hillis; all of Valona; Grandchildren, Virginia “Gina” White and husband Brady of North Pole, Alaska; Kathryn “Kate” Baker, husband Scott, of Colonels Island, Georgia; Marlana “Marly” Jacobs and Sarah Jacobs, both of Jacksonville, Florida; and James “Brad” Willis of Valona. Two Great Grandchildren, Alexandria “Alex” Baker and Ava Grace White. Also several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Food Pantry.
