

Grady L. Meeks, 77, of Brunswick passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. His death was sudden but peaceful and ended a long period of physical disability. He adjusted to debilitating hardships with a positive attitude and was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Mr. Meeks was born December 17, 1933 in Coffee County, Georgia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a graduate of the University Of Georgia College Of Pharmacy. As the owner of Stutts Drugs on Norwich Street for many years, he served others with kindness, compassion and an ever ready sense of humor. Mr. Meeks was a past president of the Glynn County Pharmaceutical Association and a member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association, the American Legion, and St. Simons United Methodist Church. Though his family and work were his passions, he also enjoyed golf, fishing, and riding his electric scooter around the neighborhood with his dog, Cosmo.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol T. Meeks; daughters, Deena Kay Hoch (Don) of Orting, WA and Carol Diann Meeks of St. Simons Island; son, Steven Meeks (Brenda) of Brunswick; grandchildren, David Allen Hoch, Diana Jane Hoch, and Melanie Ann Meeks. He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Mae Meeks.
A memorial service for Mr. Meeks will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Simons United Methodist Church with Rev. Benji Varnell and Rev. Jim Jensen officiating. Johnny Wilson, Dick Justice, Walt Henry, Walter Hunley, Wade Strickland, Bob White, Murray Schine, Roy Morris, Al Sullivan, Carlos Wells, Lowell Korb, Smitty Ledbetter, Jesse Truvillion, Billy Weeks, and Buck Bennor will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 22, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Simons United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles. Edo Miller and Sons are in charge of arrangements (www.edomillerandsons.com).
