

Gwendolyn “Sissy” Delores Thomas was born to the late Robert Thomas, Sr. and Ann Brinson on November 7, 1961 in Brunswick, GA. She departed this life to reside with our Lord on September 4, 2021 at Southeast Georgia Health System.
Gwen was educated in the Glynn County School System and graduated with the Brunswick High School Class of 1979. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During her years of dedicated service, she worked as an aviation engineer and earned the title of Lance Corporal (LCpl), as well as a plethora of awards and recognitions for her outstanding service to our country.
While she held various positions, Gwen found her passion as an educator with the Glynn County School System. Having served as a beloved master educator and mentor for more than 20 years, she touched the lives of hundreds of students. Gwen’s commitment to her students was also evident in her work with various clubs within the school, including the Princesses and Pearls and the Black History Committee. Her excellence in the classroom earned her the title of Teacher of the Year as well as grade level team leader. Her dedication to the success of children later led her to become an integral part of the Minority Outreach Program- Boys of Summer, serving multiple years at the College of Coastal Georgia as an instructor and program coordinator. Additionally, Gwen served as a mentor, tutor, and surrogate mother to many of her students.
Gwen leaves to mourn her memory her loving companion, Bruce Harris of Townsend, GA, three brothers, Robert (Sherrie) Thomas, Jr. of Brunswick, GA, Carlton (Randolyn) Thomas of Brunswick, GA, Rodney Thomas of Atlanta, GA, one sister, Veronica (James) Armstrong of Brunswick, GA, one bonus sister, Joyce Fowler of Fayetteville, NC, two sons, Raymond Fowler of Brunswick, GA, Brandon Fowler, Sr. of Townsend, GA, one daughter, Jazmine Fowler of Tallahassee, FL, one grandson, Brandon Fowler, Jr., and one granddaughter, Brielle Fowler, both of Townsend, GA, eight nieces, Candace (Jason) Vaughn of Brunswick, GA, Brandee Thomas and Kaitlin Thomas, both of Lawrenceville, GA, Deatra Thomas of Charlotte, NC, Shy’Ann Thomas and Alexia Thomas, both of Brunswick, GA, Raegan Thomas of Charlotte, NC, and Lauren Bryant of Knightdale, NC, three nephews, Carlton Thomas, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Adrian Thomas of Atlanta, GA, and Chaz Bryant of Baltimore, MD, two great-nieces, Seren Thomas-Jackson of Kennesaw, GA, Nyavia Bean of Charlotte, NC, and two great-nephews, Lennox Stallworth of Lawrenceville, GA, and Adorian Bean of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, god-children, and beloved friends.
